Ayurvedic
science shows us not only how to cure diseases but also how to prevent
their occurrence. The causes of disease are caused by an imbalance in
the humours of an individual's body or more specifically the three dosha's
of Vata, pitta and kapha. The balance of the three dosha's is of vital
importance in maintaining the health of an individual.
Ayurveda classifies people into three categories according to their
constitution or prakruti which is a combination of the three dosha's.
It is this combination of the three dosha's that is responsible for
our physical, mental and emotional makeup that makes each of us a unique
individual. By identifying and maintaining our prakruti an individual
can maintain their own ideal state of health. The condition of our prakruti
changes due to incorrect diet, emotional imbalances, too much stress,
and incorrect exercise. With these disturbances the balance of the dosha's
in our body and mind system become imbalanced. This altered state of
our health or imbalance in our body and mind is called our vikruti.
The difference between the prakruti (balance) and vikruti (imbalance)
gives a direction for healing. Our aim will be re-establish your prakruti
or balanced state.
Three steps to re-establish your Prakruti.
1. Dietary advice.
Select your diet according to your constitution. If you have an imbalance
try to avoid incorrect food that upsets or does not agree with your
own constitution.
2. Lifestyle.
The environments in which we live and the way we live from day to day
has a great effect on our dosha's. From our working environment to the
way we spend our leisure time can be changed to suit our own constitution
or prakruti to maintain a balanced state. For example if a person with
a vata constitution does too much vigorous physical exercise or their
work environment is a cold and windy place this will aggravate the vata
person. A stressful and hot environment will create and imbalance in
a person of pitta type such as a busy office or kitchen. The kapha type
person will suffer an imbalance if their job is too sedentary or they
do little exercise.
3. Medicine.
The physician must select the Ayurvedic herbal preparations to help
re-establish the balance of your dosha's. These medicines come as powders,
pills, oil applications and herbal wine or elixirs. Also the use of
Ayurvedic therapies such as Ayurvedic massage and Panchakarma can be
recommend if necessary.
4. Disorders that can be treated with Ayurveda.
Eczema, psoriasis, acne, menstrual irregularities, menopausal syndromes,
infertility, impotence, premature ejaculation, gastritis, migraine,
irritable bowel syndrome, stomach ulcers, arthritis, gout, rheumatism,
weight loss treatments and many more.
